3D Garden Plant Labels

This week I published another instructable in which I show how I used a low power/low cost laser engraver to cut 3-dimensional garden plant labels. These can be personalised with any label of your choice and are easily converted to 3D-structures so that they can be 3D-printed or CNC’d if you prefer. For full details see my Instructables or Thingiverse pages.

New Year, New 3D-Printer

I have a new 3D-printer and it’s good! The Elegoo Mars resin printer. Look out for many more upcoming projects built using it as well as hints and tips as I get to know it.

Here’s a sample print Vs an identical print from my CTC i3 FDM based printer, what do you think?

Guess what I’ve been working on?

It’s been a while since I posted so I thought I would give you all a sneak peak of what I have been working on, full details coming soon. Can you guess what it is? Let me know what you think…

Making screw free joints for Blind Controller

To allow for quicker installation as well as improved asthetics of my automated blind controller I am redesigning the gear surround and cover to enable them to be joined to one another without screws.

Attempt 1.

For my first attempt I tried a push pin type connector, the resulting design snapped together but broke when I then tried to separate the two parts.

Attempt 2.

For my second attempt I am trying a dovetail join and have cropped the print such that I can test the joint before printing the piece entirely (should have thought of this the first time round!).

Success!
